If 15 % of strokes happen while asleep, an estimated 58,000 Americans every year come to an emergency area because they woke up with stroke symptoms, the authors survey in the journal Neurology. But what if some of them acquired their strokes before they woke up, of many hours earlier instead? That could have made them qualified to receive treatment. This becomes an issue, the authors say. Certainly, one-third of individuals who experienced wake-up strokes could have obtained the drugs if period had not been an issue.
